It's very easy getting your own server online, at least if you manage forwarding your ports. From there everything is easy imo. Then the question is if your computer is good enough to run your server. If it is just you and a few friends it most likely is if it's not from the stone age. However, if you plan on running a larger server it's almost always recommended to let someone host it for you for like $10-20 a month, that said if you don't know how to run it on your own server.
