Re: Counter-Strike: Source [Linux Server Tutorial] [CentOS]

Hello,
How to setup a Counter-Strike: Source server on Linux by RoflCopter.

* Dedicated Server *
1x Dual Xeon Quad Core
8 GB of RAM
160 GB of HDD
1 TB of Data

Let's start.

1. Login with PuTTY (http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/)
2. CD /home/ (CD is a Linux Server command that allows you to move around the server)
3. MKDIR css (MKDIR is a Linux Server command that allows you to make folders)
4. CD /home/css
5. WGET http://www.steampowered.com/download/hldsupdatetool.bin (WGET allows you to download stuff)
6. CHMOD +X hldsupdatetool.bin (CHHOD abbreviated from change mode)
7. ./hldsupdatetool.bin (Unzips hldsupdatetool.bin)
8. ./steam (Updates installer)
9. ./steam -command update -game "Counter-Strike Source" -dir /home/css/ (Download server files)

Well DONE! We got the files on our dedicated server!

Let's move on to the server.cfg

1. Download WinSCP (http://winscp.net/eng/index.php)
2. Login with WinSCP
3. Find /home/css/cstrike/cfg/
4. Now open Notepad.exe (Start>Run>Notepad.exe)
5. Go to http://www.cstrike-planet.com/cfgmaker?cfg=srcds and make a server.cfg
6. Copy and paste this into your notepad and save as server.cfg
7. Go back to your WinSCP and upload it to that folder that we did before

Well DONE!

Time to start the server!

1. Login with PuTTY
2. CD /home/css
3. ./srcds_run -game cstrike -ip {yourip} -port 27015 -maxplayers 16 -tickrate 66 +fps_max 500 +map de_dust2 +servercfgfile server.cfg

Hey,

Thanks for that, you should create a screen so when you leave shell telnet the server continues to run without being logged. Otherwise it looks really good, thanks for posting this up!

Cheers
